Casting equipment and molds are high in cost, so die casting craft is usually only used for mass production of products. die casting parts are relatively easy to manufacture. It only needs four major steps, and the cost of each item is very low. Die casting is especially suitable for casting large quantity of small and medium-size casting pieces, so die casting is the most widely applied casting craft. Compared with other casting technologies, die casting parts are more smooth and dimension conformity.

Die casting parts

Traditional die casting craft mainly consists of four steps or is called high-pressure casting. These four steps include mold preparation, filling, injection and shakeout, and they are the ground of various modified pressure casting process. During the preparation process, lubricant should be applied to the inner cavity of the mold. The lubricant can help control the temperature of the mold as well as demould casting pieces. Then the mold can be closed, and the molten metal can be injected into the mold with high pressure. The pressure is between 10-175 MPa. After the molten metal fills the mold, the pressure will be maintained until the casting piece is solidified. Then the pushrod will push out all the casting pieces. Since one mold may have several mold cavities, several casting pieces may be produced at one time of casting. The shakeout process needs separation of slags, including the mold orifice, flowing channel, running gate and the fin. This process is usually completed through special trimming of extrusion casting pieces. Other shakeout methods include sawing and grinding.

    Die casting is a casting method where the molten alloy liquid is poured into the pressure chamber to fill the cavity of the steel mold at a high speed, and the alloy liquid is solidified and forms casting pieces under the pressure. The high speed and high pressure of pressure casting make the pressure casting be different from other casting methods. ① Metal liquid fills the molding cavity under a pressure and is solidified under a higher pressure (usually 15-100MPa). ② Metal liquid fills the molding cavity at a high speed (usually 10-50m/s, sometimes may be over 80m/s) (the linear speed at which the liquid is poured into the molding cavity via the inner running gate - the inner running gate), so the molding time of metal liquid is extremely short (the molding cavity can be filled within about 0.01-0.2s (subject to the size of the casting pieces)).
